Rodrigues' maiden international hundred seal series win for India

Rawal, Mandhana and Harleen also chipped with fifties as India posted a record total and eventually won by 116 runs

India notched up a series win that never appeared to be in any doubt, but in batting out 50 overs for a second straight game in Rajkot, Ireland ticked off a few boxes as part of their preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.India stormed to their highest-ever ODI score, fuelled by Jemimah Rodrigues’ maiden ODI century, and then saw Ireland’s top order deny a young Indian pace attack. Christina Coulter Reilly brought up a maiden half-century in her fourth innings, while Laura Delany made a 36-ball 37 to frustrate India’s spinners. Ireland eventually surpassed the 238 for 7 they made two days ago, to take away plenty of batting positives. The crux of India’s win lay in how their own set of youngsters, outside of Smriti Mandhana, batted and put up runs on the board. Pratika Rawal hit a third half-century in five innings, but would’ve been disappointed at missing out on a century for a second-game running.Related

Stats – India break partnership records, post their highest-ever ODI total

Ireland Women spinner Aimee Maguire reported for suspect bowling action

After making 89 two days ago, Rawal exhibited outstanding offside stroke play against the seam bowlers in particular, during the course of a 156-run opening stand with Mandhana. Rawal was out lbw for 67 off the very next ball after Mandhana mistimed a pull off Orla Prendergast at midwicket for 73.India’s urgency in the powerplay wasn’t accompanied by blind slogging but pristine stroke play, even as Mandhana initially fiddle in what seemed like a role reversal from the series opener two days ago. That day, Mandhana charged off the blocks, playing her signature pulls, while Rawal buckled down. This fusion helped the pair put together their third opening stand of 100 or more in five innings, with Mandhana quickly overtaking Rawal. There seemed a sense of inevitability to two impending centuries, but lapses in concentration led to a double-strike.This brought Harleen and Rodrigues together as the pair took a while to play their strokes on the face of some really slow bowling. Harleen struggled for momentum early on, pottering to 5 off 21 deliveries; Rodrigues was a tad more industrious at the other end, attempting to move around the crease and thwart the seamers by playing the pulls and paddles. The pair took 75 deliveries to raise their half-century stand which Harleen raised with a superb, lofted hit over mid-off. Rodrigues didn’t want to be left too far behind as she hit Arlene Kelly for back-to-back fours, with overs 32-34 fetching India five boundaries. Harleen possibly played the shot of the day when she exhibited incredible control in whipping a full ball from fourth-stump to bisect the gap between deep midwicket and long-on.The Harleen Deol-Jemimah Rodrigues partnership took time to speed up•BCCI

Ireland let themselves down when they missed running out Rodrigues for 34 in the 35th over when Prendergast missed a direct hit at the non-striker’s end from mid-on. Rodrigues was let off a second time when keeper Coulter Reilly put down a tough chance off an attempted late cut off Canning.Harleen got to her fifty off 58, and accelerated towards her second hundred in four ODIs, before falling for 89. Rodrigues got her half-century a tad slower, off 62 deliveries, before she shifted gears sensationally in the last ten overs. The purity of her strokeplay stood out, with her signature lofted hit by moving legside of the ball making repeated appearances.Rodrigues took just 28 balls to move from a half-century to her maiden ODI ton, much to the applause of the entire team on the balcony, before she celebrated by mimicking playing a song on her guitar with her bat. India ended with 370 for 5, 102 off those coming in the last ten as Ireland walked back relieved that their morning toil was over.Christina Coulter Reilly scored her maiden ODI fifty•BCCI

Ireland were slow off the blocks and never equally went for the target. But Coulter Reilly overcame two blows on her helmet, both times missing a bumper from Sayali Satghare. She overcame the early jitters to exhibit a sense of fearlessness against spin, particularly enterprising off Priya Mishra, the legspinner, whom she swept into different arcs on the leg side.Delany, who came in at No. 4, showed urgency from get-go, hitting her second ball through the covers for a boundary, and was equally formidable when Deepti Sharma tried to lull her in flight after an early reprieve when the offspinner put down a tough return catch on 7.As it turned out, this passage – an 83-run fourth-wicket stand – was the only period where in India felt challenged by Ireland’s batters, even as the rest tried to get their eye in. Leah Paul, who struck a half-century in the previous game, made an unbeaten 22-ball 27, to add the finishing touches as Ireland surpassed the 238 for 7 they made two days ago.

Leeds "interested" in signing new £35m striker compared to Erling Haaland

da casino: Leeds United are “interested” in signing a Premier League striker compared to Erling Haaland, as the 49ers Enterprises’ ramp up the Whites’ summer transfer business.

Leeds making moves with Nmecha and Bijol

da pinnacle: With Premier League football to prepare for under Daniel Farke, Leeds are now becoming active in the window, with Lukas Nmecha the first official arrival of the summer.

Joining on July 1 when his Wolfsburg contract expires, Nmecha has agreed to a two-year deal at Elland Road and will actually count as a homegrown player following his time in England with Manchester City.

Talking after sealing a move to Leeds, Nmecha said: “It’s just a great challenge and I’m really excited to get to know the team. I’ve spoken with the manager many times and I’m excited to play that style of football that they played in the Championship, even in the Premier League.

“I saw that there was dominance last season in terms of possession and the goals. I’m an attacking player, so obviously that’s exciting for me. Of course, in the Premier League, there’s some big boys in there where you can’t play like that all the time, but I think the idea of the manager is to play good football, possession football, and that’s what I’m used to and what I love doing.

“I wish we could get going now, but we still have a few weeks of pre-pre-season, getting the runs in and all that! But, I just can’t wait to start training now.”

Bid submitted: Leeds make £8.5m offer to sign "excellent" ace after Bijol

He’s reportedly next on Leeds’ summer wishlist.

ByTom Cunningham Jun 17, 2025

Alongside the German forward, Leeds are also primed to bolster their centre-back ranks with a move for Udinese star Luka Bijol.

A deal has now been agreed for Leeds to sign Bijol from the Serie A side in a transfer that could be worth over £18m with add-ons. It is the 49ers’ first major outlay following the club’s Championship triumph, and by the looks of things, they won’t be stopping there.

Leeds "interested" in signing £35m Rodrigo Muniz

According to Sky Sports senior reporter Rob Dorsett, Leeds are “interested” in signing Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz over the coming months, describing Leeds as “busy” in the window.

Thought to be valued at £50m by those at Craven Cottage, Leeds are willing to pay £35m, as the Whites look to bolster their attacking ranks even further.

Reliable reporter Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post added that Leeds would still be in the market for another striker after landing Nmecha, and it looks as if Muniz is a real target.

Still just 24 years of age, Muniz has been a steady performer in the top flight in recent seasons, which have actually been his only campaigns in the Premier League. As per FBref, Muniz is similar to Man City star Haaland based objectively on his statistical profile, and ranks in the top 2% of forwards for aerial duels won over the past 12 months.

As can be seen, Muniz hasn’t exactly been guaranteed game time at Craven Cottage under Marco Silva, so a move to Yorkshire may appeal to him, providing Farke can promise him more action.

Ihsanullah reverses decision to retire from all franchise cricket

Pakistan and former Multan Sultans fast bowler says he made the decision in “an emotional state of mind”

Ihsanullah has had issues with his right elbow – including question marks over his treatment•PCB

Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah has reversed a decision to retire from all franchise cricket less than 24 hours after he announced it. The former Multan Sultans player said he had made the decision in “an emotional state of mind”.”I take my decision back,” Ihsanullah said, speaking to TV channel Geo Super. “No franchise picked me, and the comments of a lot of people sent me over the edge. I’m going to work hard. There are four months before the PSL. The people who didn’t select me are the same ones who will select me in the future. I have no plans to retire.”Ihsanullah, 22, made his initial announcement to retire merely hours after the conclusion of the draft for the tenth edition of the PSL, which he went unsold in. At the time, he insisted it wasn’t an emotional decision. “People are self-serving. I boycott the PSL, no one will ever see me in the PSL. Nobody has contacted me, even [Ali Tareen, Multan Sultans’ owner] supported my talent, not me personally.”After breaking through in 2023 with his high pace and wicket-taking prowess, Ihsanullah suffered an elbow injury during his first ODI series, at home against New Zealand. However, the manner in which it was treated – or not – became the subject of a protracted saga that saw his franchise’s owner Ali Tareen criticise the PCB for inappropriate support of the fast bowler, and stated it was Sultans rather than the PCB who bore the brunt of his living expenses while he recovered.Tareen told ESPNcricinfo Ihsanullah had reached out to him to apologise for that public critique of him, and thanked him again for his support during his rehabilitation. “I feel extremely sorry for Ihsanullah,” Tareen said. “He comes from a very poor family and when he broke through, he believed he would come out of poverty, but because of the actions of the PCB’s medical staff, he fears he may have to go back to poverty. The PCB have effectively washed their hands off him, and I was the one who asked the PCB to let him play the recent T20 Champions Cup. None of us can imagine what his state of mind must be.”Tareen said he had assured Ihsanullah he would keep him involved with Sultans, who have a Grade 2 department side, ensuring he has a monthly income as he attempts to work his way back to fitness. But he defended his decision to let Ihsanullah go unpicked at the draft, saying he did not feel it was possible to pick him in the recent draft because he was not ready to play the high level of cricket, that the PSL requires, by April.Last year, a damning independent report criticised “delays in the diagnosis of Ihsanullah’s injury and inappropriate prescription of treatment”, and the PCB’s chief medical officer Dr Sohail Saleem quit on the same day.The report stated that Ihsanullah did not have his right elbow pain treated, addressed and operated on appropriately, and never received the formal rehabilitation process required by his condition. It did also lay partial blame on Ihsanullah for “non-compliance with the prescribed rehabilitation plan”, even as it concluded that the plan itself was inadequate. It stated that Ihsanullah’s surgery was “planned hurriedly”, lacking specialist review and preoperative assessment. It also said that the surgeon recommended for the procedure “lacked academics and experience in the field”, calling the choice “inappropriate”.At the time, it said Ihsanullah’s return to cricket remained a prospect of the distant future. Earlier this month, in an unusually candid appearance on cricket podcast “Relukattay”, Tareen had said he spoke to a world-renowned doctor in the UK about Ihsanullah’s injury. “It’s extremely sad,” he said. “He told us there was so much scarring because of his previously botched surgery thanks to the PCB that his arm will never become perfectly straight. That no matter what he did, Ihsanullah’s arm would never be fully straight because of that scarring.”
